The film explores the lives of two couples, Venus (Rani Mukerjee) and her husband (Vivian Dsena), and Aditya (Akshaye Khanna) and his wife Kalpana (Karisma Kapoor). The first part of the movie shows how Venus is dissatisfied with her marriage to she starts dating other men. She eventually falls in love with Richard/Ricky Braganza who betrays her trust by getting engaged to someone else. Aditya is secretly infatuated with Kalpana but does not express his feelings for her due to fear of hurting his parents who are against this relationship. Their mutual friend, Mahek (Soha Ali Khan) introduces them to each other and we find that both Venus and Aditya are dating an unknown person called Kalpana and Venus respectively. The second part of the movie shows how Aditya and Venus decide to reveal their identities and meet one another at five star hotel in London. The meeting takes place as planned but by then both have developed real feelings for each other. They decide not to reveal their identity to each other. However, Kalpana decides to do so knowing that Aditya is already deeply involved with someone else. Their relationship continues even after betrayal by Aditya. Aditya and Kalpana decide to tell Venus that they both love her. Venus is heartbroken and decides to leave London. Before leaving she reveals her identity to Aditya who then consoles her. The movie ends with the revelation that Venus has decided not to leave Aditya as Kalpana has left for another city. Written by Umesh Mishra, Kaushik Ghatak & Bali Bhuchar "Dil Se.. " received positive response from critics. Rachna Khaira of "Rediff" gave a verdict- "...the fantastic chemistry between the lead pair and the excellent performances by Karisma Kapoor and Akshaye Khanna is what will keep you hooked to this two hours of pure entertainment." Aijaz Ahmad of "CNN-IBN" gave a verdict- "Except for an overexaggerated climax, it is thoroughly enjoyable. We recommend that you go on holiday with your family or friends to Jaipur, Delhi or Lucknow on Saturday, December 4 (when it releases) and catch the film in its Hindi version dubbed in Hindi like how it's shown in USA. Jaya Bhattacharya in her review for "Times of India", gave a verdict- "On the whole, Dil Se is a well-observed ensemble piece which will keep you entertained throughout. It's definitely worth the money you spend to watch it in the theatre." The film grossed in India and outside, totaling , against its budget. Rani Mukherjee won the Best Actress awards at the Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards and IIFA 2000 held at Durban, South Africa.
